James has called the Reno–Carson–Tahoe area home since 1993, when he attended the University of Nevada, Reno, and earned his Bachelor of Arts in English. His early dream of becoming a local journalist shifted as the Internet era took off, leading him into a successful three-decade career in software development. Along the way, he stayed true to his creative roots, showcasing his fine-art landscape photography (jmgalleries.com) at local businesses across Reno, Carson City, and as far south as Las Vegas and Temecula, California.

After 30 years in tech, the AI genie was let out of the bottle and opened a new chapter for James—real estate. Partnering with his Realtor® wife, Michele McCarthy, they help others achieve their dreams of homeownership. Together, they bring a proven combination of integrity, transparency, and local insight to every client relationship.

James is a co-founder of The McCarthy Group at Dickson Realty, serving buyers and sellers throughout Carson City, Dayton, Minden, Gardnerville, Reno, Sparks, and the greater Lake Tahoe area.
